Capitalism and Stuff.

I went to go see The Motorcycle Diaries tonight and it was great. Searching for a coffee shop to supply us beforehand proved to be a challenge as careful planning collapsed and gave way to the skillful determination of my coffee searching comrade. Eventually it was discovered that the theatre served good enough coffee. ANYWAY, the movie was great and it got me thinking about what capitalism really means......

To me, this idea of capitalism has become a sort of religion. It's revered and often prodded for hard answers to hard human questions. In many ways, one could argue that we submit ourselves to capitalism. I think this is wrong.

People should not starve because we dont have the money. But they will and that is wrong. People should not be kicked off their land and made to move because property deeds were pulled from thin air. But they will be and that is wrong. People should not be paid pennies to make my shoes because Wal-Mart, et al bought off the WTO. But they will and that is wrong.

My point is this: We should employ capitalism as a means of attaining our ideals, not as an end to itself. It's not progress if most people get trampled while a relative few people excel. It's reckless.
