Musical Theory.

Here's a little idea. Modern America has introduced three new kinds of music. In order, Jazz, Rock & Roll and Hip Hop. Jazz rose in the 1920's and was pushed heavily to it's limits for about 50 years. Rock & Roll came about in the 1950's and you could say we have reached the end of it evolution. Hip Hop came about in the 1980's and so if the trend continues we've got about 25 more years to explore it. Most importantly, we're due for another musical innovation in the next 10 years or so. I don't necessarily envision the mixing of genres like Hard Rock and Country, but the creation of a new kind of music...

And I think it will have alot to do with sampling. It seems like our system of copyrights is going to hurt us more and more as other countries develop healthy culture without regard for our copyright system. Brazil is a leader in this regard.

Consider the direct realtionship between improving technology and the effects it has on copyright. Copyrighted works are under constant threat from new technologies, and as the technology becomes more and more accessible to more and more people, the threats will increase. At some point copyrighted works will be the odd man out in a room full of the new norm: open creative works.
