I'm pretty psyched about school starting in the fall. I'm signed up for six classes, booked solid from 8am to 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I'll probably drop one. If they all turn out to be solid seeming classes I may stick with it though. I've still got my sights set on finishing up fall of 2006, but unless I'm able to sneak into some clutch classes, that may not work out. I'm ready to get moving on and see some more of the world.
I still need nine summer credit hours. If I can't sneak into a St. Pete Pro-Seminar class next summer ('06), then I may pack three classes into Session A and travel the rest of the summer. If I could sell my damn car, I'd be in such better shape.
The USF area is becoming a regular scooter fiesta. I see them all the time, and the circumstances that I percieve to have given rise to the phenomenon always strike me as funny. USF was originally a commuter school and it still largely holds onto that reputation. But it is very much in transition and as far as I can tell, it's going about the switch with more grace than you might expect from the biggest university in Florida.
Like most things Modern Florida, everything was built around the car. Sprawling parking lots, close proximity to extensive highways, limited bike paths, and glitchy public transportation. Unfortunately, a world where every individual owns a car and puts it to daily use is simply not sustainable. The same holds true for a university, and USF seems to have recognized this. Sadly, the distance between things is static, and while long distances do not matter much when you can drive, they are all that exists when you have to walk it. As driving individually (consider all the empty seats waiting at a stop light) becomes more and more cumbersome, alternatives become increasingly attractive. With repeated long distances to go, a motor to carry you there is always attractive. So what's the compromise? Scooters. Nimble, efficient, clean, and cheap. Not to mention fun.
Anyway, these will be the classes I'll be scootering to:
English II -ENC 1102
Consumerism & Health -HSC 4933
Major Issues: Modern Cities -HUM4938
South East Asian History -ASH 2270
Sociocultural Aspects of Aging -GEY3625
American History I -AMH2010
One of them is going to have to go. A guy's gotta eat. But they all look good, and the teachers got decent or better reviews.
