I'm gonna do an occasional series titled "Music That..." I'll list songs that are currently in heavy rotation and that are old standbys. I'm also gonna show the lyrics that really bring it home.
Without further ado:
Damien Rice - Eskimo
I look to my eskimo friend
I look to my eskimo friend
When I know.......
(Opera Singer takes it to another level)
It's just so relentlessly awesome. The song starts real slow and it certainly builds itself up, but really only alittle bit until just before it all explodes. And this is folk music, which makes it 10 times cooler.
Damien Rice - I Remember
I wanna hear what you have to say about me
Hear, if your gonna live without me
I wanna hear what you want; who you want
This song starts off about as mellow as they come and really without any hint that the song will be rockin' ya by the end. And when you get there its unlike anything else you could expect to hear. The violins, the tinny drums, his imperfect voice quivering.... they all add up to some serious chills.
Dave Matthews - Too High
The wires are crossed
Your mouth is lost
You fear you've lifted far too long
The minutes pass
The hours are gone
So hard to find you way alone
Slow hands quicken
Slow hands quicken
And then comes the absolutely epic ending. He brings out all the stops. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
Green Day - Are We The Waiting
And screaming
Are we, we are, the waiting
And screaming
Are we, we are, the waiting
This song is begging to be blared full blast while ripping down the highway with windows down late at night. And I oblige. You cant beat blurry street lights whizzing by with the warm night air made cool and crisp by 70 miles an hour and a chorus of "Are we, we are, the waiting." Try it as soon as possible. And wear a seat belt, but only if you want to.
