I was reading or something and it just hit me. I felt it before I really even thought it. Such a strange feeling. I started searching frantically for a pen or pencil and paper to write it down. I was in front of the computer, so I could have typed it, but sometimes you just need to feel the pen to paper, its almost spiritual. Anyway, I couldnt find anything so I ran into the kitchen where I remember having seen a marker and I ran back into my room and I almost, almost lost it, it was just teetering on the edge about to drop off and become irretrievable. But I got it. And here it is. Agree or disagree, just try it onbefore you dismiss it.
For the vast majority of the history of the Universe things have been predetermined. The planets spin, gravity works, light travels, things collide, things explode, on and on. Life forms, just basic little one-celled criters whose nature it is to survive and replicate. More things develop. Natural selection and Non-Zero-sumness work together and ever more complex life arises. Life deifes the Universe's natural tendency towards randomness. In time, humans rule the earth, but our capacity for free will is still limited because we dont really know that much and as such we are unaware of the breadth of the choices we have. As our knowledge grows we eventually get to the point we are at today. And that is a place where the more we know creates more and more freedom and that knowledge is only seconds away.
Consider this track and where it may be leading!
The whole world, all 6.1 billion people and counting are becoming one thing, one living organism, connected to each other through the internet, with bigger and faster planes, with hundreds of satellites, and so on. And our knowledge of the world is increasing exponentially. As more people have more access to more education and information they become plugged in to the world and contribute to the invisible brain. The knowledge that we have collectively is growing exponentially. By enabling more and more people to contribute to this huge system we are in effect creating more free will. Out of thin air we are creating it! What does an increase in free will mean to the Universe? I have no idea. But if I had to guess I would say that it has alot to do with creating our own reality.
So line it up. The Universe is built on randomness, which is brilliantly stable. This stability enables increasingly complex life to arise where the complexity evetually reaches the point of modern man. Modern man being of higher intelligence than anything previous to it understands that by better knowing his evironment he is better able to conquer it and therefore better able to survive and propagate. So at some point he is even able to see this quest for knowledge as a choice. This choice, made by each of us over and over, grows into the world we have today. It is a world where every bit of information contributes to greater access to the very free will that didnt exist before that knowledge was attained. Without free will, without choice, there is no morality. It seems logical that that act of choosing knowledge over and over, again and again, is setting the stage for a kind of ultimate choice. And what is that ultimate choice?
Hmm...
