Here's a fun little theory I made up:
The reason human beings are presently unable to scratch their own backs is because natural selection favored people with the social skills necessary to enlist the help of another person. Getting your back scratched by another person is only a few degrees removed from finding a nice cozy cave with that person and... staying naked.
This occured to me a few days ago while listening to the excellent album Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple. Track 2, to be exact. She sings, "Wait till I get him back, he won't have a back to scratch."
Ahh, good times.
